Support services in the ACT
The Australian Young, Pregnant and Parenting Network is made up of health care providers, educators, social workers and community members from across Australia. They support pregnant and parenting young people to make the right choices and create the best outcomes for themselves and their children.
They advocate for quality health care, education, training, employment and housing as the fundamental building blocks of physical, emotional, social and economic well-being for young people.
Karinya House Home for Mothers & Babies Inc. is a community based, not-for-profit organisation providing supported accommodation, transitional housing, outreach services and support groups to pregnant and parenting women and their families who are in crisis.
Dr Marie provides free decision-based counselling via telephone, giving you a chance to discuss your situation with a trained pregnancy advice counsellor. Sessions are confidential, non-judgemental and free; they will help you make the decision that is right for you.
Sexual Health and Family Planning Act provides counselling that is unbiased, respectful, non-judgmental and non-directive and aims to deliver accurate information and support for women and their partners and/or families. All options are explored and discussed in a safe environment as needed by the individual woman. Referrals to termination of pregnancy services are made as needed, or as requested by the woman.
The Canberra Hospital Antenatal Clinic provides the Step Ahead program for pregnant clients of The Junction. Through the program, clients can access a midwife and a social worker for antenatal check-ups, referral and advocacy including housing support, parenting support and education.
