Multiple births

Finding out you are having twins, triplets or more is often a surprise. You may have many questions such as;

  • How will I cope?
  • What do I need?
  • Are there risks involved?
  • What support is available?

A pregnancy with multiple babies is considered more complicated than a single pregnancy and you will require more visits with your healthcare provider as well as additional scans and tests throughout your pregnancy. Health professionals will most likely recommend you receive specialist pregnancy care, most likely with an obstetrician, rather than choosing a GP shared care or midwifery led model of care. It will most likely be recommended that you give birth in a hospital rather than a birth centre or at home.  To ensure you are making the right decisions for you and your babies, it is a good idea to become well informed of your situation and your options.
